Labour Shramik Card Registration news: e-SHRAM has been developed for the overall welfare of crores of unorganised workers of the country. To extend the benefits to unorganised workers of the country, the e-SHRAM portal will be seeded with their Aadhaar cards.  

The Labour Shramik Card will have details of name, occupation, address, educational qualification, skill types and family details etc. for the optimum realisation of their employability and extend the benefits of the social security schemes to them. It is the first-ever national database of unorganised workers, including migrant workers, construction workers, gig and platform workers and others

“In times of any national crisis like COVID-19, financial help through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) will be transferred directly in the bank account of the Unorganised Worker, registered on e-SHRAM Portal,” EPFO tweeted. 

As of now, over 1.7 crore registrations in a month at e-Shram portal has been done. Almost 50 per cent of the workers registered are female. More than 78 per cent of the registrations completed via Common Service Centres.  

“We want everyone to register so that every worker is able to avail of the benefits of government schemes,” the Ministry of Labour informed on Twitter.  Only agriculture labours and landless farmers are eligible for registration in the e-SHRAM portal. Other farmers are not eligible.  The Ministry had released data last week showcasing the top 10 states that have taken a lead in the registration.

Labour Shramik Card Registration Benefits   

There are no income criteria for registering on the e-SHRAM as an unorganised worker. However, one should not be an income tax payee. Any worker who is unorganized and aged between 16-59, is eligible to register on the e-SHRAM portal. Documents like Aadhaar Number, mobile number, Aadhaar linked bank account will be required by the worker to register on the e-SHRAM portal. It can be noted that if a worker does not have Aadhaar linked mobile number, he/ she can visit the nearest CSC’s and register through Biometric authentication .

An Unorganised worker may register himself/herself through visiting on the e-SHRAM portal or through assisted approach by visiting the nearest CSC’s. It can be noted that registration on the e-SHRAM portal is free. Workers are not required to pay any charges to any registering entity.  

After the registration, the workers will be issued an e-SHRAM card with a unique Universal Account Number (UAN) and they will be able to access the benefits of the various social security schemes through this card anywhere anytime.
